Windsor Artist Exchange wants to invite all artists, filmmakers, and creatives alike to their monthly artist meet-ups and workshops.

Once a month, Windsor Artist Exchange hosts workshops, networking nights, and more for all local Windsor-Essex artists as a way to connect and bring the community together.

Kaitlyn Karns, the events organizer, says that each month focuses on a different set of resources and ideas for local artists. For networking nights, they often partner up with local businesses and host in their spaces.

Karns says each event gets an average of 25 attendees and that the vibe amongst them is usually super positive and comfortable. Keeping attendance numbers low is what she thinks helps attribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“The attendees all have shown a willingness to learn and the need for collaboration.”

She says that while they do see some recurring artists; “the majority of attendees are new, which is fantastic. . . . [W]e welcome all artists of any discipline, age, and experience, including students.”

One recent event, an artistic portfolio workshop, sparks an interest for Sophia Sabelli, a third-year aspiring architect in the university’s VABE program, whose portfolio is very important to her. “It’s the professional and academic summary of who you are as an artist.”

Sabelli says she and her peers are “constantly encouraged to always be updating our portfolios and constantly refining them to be the best they can be.” In her opinion, “attending portfolio events is a great way to get a fresh pair of eyes to look at and critique your portfolio.”

Kaitlyn Karns thinks “Windsor is full of amazing artists from all disciplines,” and she encourages students to attend these events.

“Take this time to network, learn from one another, and collaborate with those around you.”

The Windsor Artist Exchange will be hosting a personal branding workshop sometime in April. More information on this and other events can be found on their website, https://www.umaloft.com/wae, or their Instagram page.
