Through the Goalposts: Simon Grande’s Journey, a Typical Tale of an Athletes Challenges, Sacrifices, and Perserverance
By: Agatha Godlewski Behind every athlete's glory lies a journey often untold—one of sacrifice, relentless setbacks, and resilience. For Grande, the journey is not just about victory; it's about surviving the struggle. Grande enters the room with a practiced ease that masks his discomfort. His steps are steady, his posture confident, but the telltale signs of strain peek through— hoarse voice, frequent sniffling, and a deep cough interrupting him every few minutes. He clutches a large Tim Hortons iced coffee, his lifeline on this particular day. The walls of the yellow, grungy room do little to brighten the atmosphere, but
Bridging Cultures Through Hockey: Lancers Celebrate International Students’ Day
By: Zoe Kepran International students at the University of Windsor embraced Canadian culture – many for the first time – and celebrated International Students Day with the Lancers women’s hockey team. The International Students’ Day event at Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex was a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and Canadian tradition. The University of Windsor has over 4,000 international students from 95 countries, and this event highlighted the rich cultural tapestry that defines its diverse campus community. Students explored the Lancer dressing room, participated in giveaways, and proudly carried flags representing their home countries, adding to the festive and inclusive
Let’s Do More to Support Our Women’s Varsity Teams
By: Naz Buhagiar We’ve seen the headlines in the past about women’s sports not being supported the same as men’s athletic endeavours. How are we doing on campus? Can we do more? There is some imbalance in fan attendance between Lancer women’s and men’s varsity athletics. According to Ontario University Athletics (OUA) attendance records, men’s teams at our University consistently draw larger crowds than women’s teams, underscoring a persistent trend. However, there is an exception, as women’s soccer has had a marginal lead over the men’s team in attendance over the past decade. Men’s teams continue to lead in other
More Cultural Supports Needed for Indigenous Student-Athletes
By: Jacob Genereux Indigenous student-athletes are clearly underserved and there needs to be a call to action for more substantial support systems. In 2024, you’d think there would be sufficient awareness and support for Indigenous student-athletes. It’s been a longstanding issue and situation inherited by Stephanie White, who stepped into the director of athletics role in spring 2022. “Our department does not have a specific framework to support our Indigenous student-athletes,” White concedes. She also acknowledged these matters are firmly on her to-do list. There needs to be an environment where Indigenous people can be comfortable connecting with their cultural
Rookies Rising While Veterans are Shining: An Opening Serve to the Women’s Volleyball Season
by: Samuel Moors Windsor, ON – Tight losses to clutch wins. That’s the difference this year’s University of Windsor Lancers women’s volleyball team would like to see, led by returning veterans and promising rookies. The Lancers are off to a hot start this season with a 4-0 start, thanks to back-to-back wins over the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold and the Lakehead Thunderwolves – all on home court. Life on the road, however, yielded consecutive losses to the Queen’s Gaels this past weekend. Still, they’re 4-2. The early season success can be seen as the key mix of experienced veteran play

Forgotten Champions: The Windsor Men’s Golf Triumph Deserves More Than Silence
By: Robert Springer Photo: The Lancers Men's Golf Team huddle together for a team photo after winning the OUA Championship. We have the best men’s golfers in the province and you wouldn’t know it by the lack of buzz around campus. Why aren’t we talking about them more, celebrating what they’ve accomplished? Other teams bask in the university's spotlight for far less. The Windsor men's golf squad just pulled off a somewhat historic victory, claiming the prestigious provincial title for the first time in 30 years. Yet, the attention other sports command from the campus community has overshadowed a terrific

Through Growing Pains: Lancers Men’s Soccer Endures Winless Season with an Eye on a Bright Future
By: Samuel Olufemi Olu-Obadina Photo credit: @lancersoccer_. Beneath the surface of a tough campaign, the Lancer men’s soccer team is laying the groundwork for a promising future. The Windsor Lancers allowed a goal in the 90th minute to drop their final game of the 2024 men’s soccer season to the Laurier Golden Hawks. It was a season without a win. This final loss capped a season in which the team failed to register a victory in 12 regular-season games, placing last in the OUA West Division and 17th overall out of 18 teams. The squad remained upbeat despite the hard
