The Impact of the University of Windsor’s Food Pantry

The University of Windsor's student-run food pantry is transforming its offerings, engaging students in evolving their selections and collaborating to address campus food insecurity. Ghallia Hashem, the University of Windsor’s Student Alliance (UWSA) president says there is in an increase in students using the student-run food pantry. "We started the food pantry this summer for this year, and there was an exponential uptick in the number of people who would stop by and take items, compared to last year," Hashem shares. EPICentre’s Connect For: Holiday Swap Fosters Sustainability and Community Spirit at the University of Windsor

The University of Windsor Entrepreneurship, Practice, and Innovation Centre (EPICentre) is collaborating with the International Student Centre (ISC) and the University of Windsor Students' Alliance (UWSA) Food Pantry to host an event called Connect For: Holiday Swap.  The event is on Thursday, December 7th, from 4 pm to 6 pm, and they are inviting students, faculty members, and the community to participate.   How does it work?  Between Monday, November 27th and Monday, December 4th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, you can visit the EPICentre office and donate up to five gently used items such as clothing, books, home décor,

UWindsor food pantry receives generous donation from local union

The University of Windsor’s food pantry has received a donation of $15,000 from CUPE Local 4580.  The food pantry is a service provided by the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance and aims to ‘take a bite' out of food security concerns with food aid assistance. Canned goods, breakfast items, snacks, and personal hygiene items are available to all students at the University.  Madison West, coordinator of the food pantry, said that it “is our firm belief that no student should have to choose between textbooks, tuition, and food.”  CUPE Local 4580 is a labour union representing graduate and teaching assistants
