UWindsor Encourages Students to Mask Up
The University of Windsor is reminding students that ‘strict compliance to mask policy is required.’ In an email recently sent out to the UWindsor community, the university is encouraging mask wearing indoors, even if proper physical distancing is being maintained. The message comes following a provincial rise in COVID-19, the flu, and RSV. Healthcare systems have been overwhelmed by this triple threat, and hospitals throughout the province are past full capacity. UWindsor’s Faculty of Law collaborates with the Canadian Red Cross to host conference on Urban Warfare
The University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law will be hosting a conference with the Canadian Red Cross titled: War in Cities: An International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Perspective. The conference will focus on Urban Warfare. It is a free, public conference held at Canterbury College. It features experts and academics to teach about the pressing issues surrounding International Humanitarian Law. Urban warfare has been a common feature of many conflicts since the second world war. UWSA Annual General Meeting Adjourned Early Following Contentious Discussion About Proposed By-Law and Policy Amendments and Former President’s Removal
The AGM, scheduled for Monday, April 25 from 5 to 8 p.m., abruptly ended at 7:28 p.m. after a majority of members voted in favor of a motion put forward to adjourn the meeting before all the topics on the agenda had been discussed. Of the 75 members present, 15 voted in favor of the motion, 8 voted against it, and 1 abstained from voting. Students vocalized concerns regarding proposed By-Law and Policy amendments and asked questions about the former president’s removal. Maria Mediratta: From UWindsor student to Successful Artist
Maria Mediratta (she/her) is a 25-year-old freelance artist and educator who has been working in Windsor's Arts & Culture sector for approximately five years. In early March, the Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) announced that Maria would be one of three emerging artists to participate in the Emerging Artist Residency program generously sponsored by the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
UWindsor food pantry receives generous donation from local union
The University of Windsor’s food pantry has received a donation of $15,000 from CUPE Local 4580. The food pantry is a service provided by the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance and aims to ‘take a bite' out of food security concerns with food aid assistance. Canned goods, breakfast items, snacks, and personal hygiene items are available to all students at the University. Madison West, coordinator of the food pantry, said that it “is our firm belief that no student should have to choose between textbooks, tuition, and food.” CUPE Local 4580 is a labour union representing graduate and teaching assistants
